Have an idea for a group that doesn’t exist yet?
Whether it’s Food, Travel, Startups, Tesla, Cricket, or Parenting, you can request a new group on the Indian Community Connect platform and bring people together around a shared topic, location, or need.
Our goal is to create high-quality, well-managed groups that add real value to members. Use this page to understand the criteria, expectations, and the simple steps to request a new group.
Why Start a Group?
- Focused conversations: Keep discussions relevant and easy to follow.
- Discoverability: Help members find people and content that match their interests.
- Local + topical: Create city-specific or theme-specific groups (e.g., “Indian Foodies – Atlanta” or “EV Owners – Bay Area”).
- Community leadership: Become a recognized community builder by stewarding valuable discussions.
What Makes a Good Group?
- Clear purpose: The topic is specific and not already covered by an existing active group.
- Real interest: There’s an identifiable audience likely to join and participate.
- Sustainable content: The topic supports ongoing conversations, not one-time posts.
- Positive impact: The group aligns with Indian Community Connect’s values and guidelines.
Great Examples
- Food: Indian Home Chefs – New Jersey, Healthy Vegetarian Meal Prep
- Travel: Budget Travel for NRIs, Himalayan Trekking Plans
- Tech/Auto: Tesla Owners – Toronto, AI & Startups – Bay Area
- Life Stages: New Parents Support – Dallas, Students Moving to Canada (Fall 2025)
- Culture & Hobbies: Classical Music Learners, Weekend Cricket – Chicago
Who Can Request a Group?
Any registered member of the Indian Community Connect platform in good standing (no recent policy violations) who is willing to help seed conversations and invite early members.
Note: If you’d like to co-lead with a friend or a small team, you can list co-leads in your request.
Roles & Expectations
- Group Lead (you):
- Seed the first 5–10 valuable posts and discussion prompts.
- Welcome new members and model constructive participation.
- Flag or remove spam/irrelevant content (with moderator support).
- Indian Community Connect Support:
- Help with initial setup, naming, and category placement.
- Provide moderation escalation and community safety support.
- Feature promising new groups in discovery modules (subject to quality).
Naming & Structure Guidelines
- Be specific: “Tesla Owners – Bay Area” beats “Tesla Fans.”
- Avoid duplicates: We may merge or redirect to an existing active group.
- Use location only when relevant: Create local groups if meetups or local info matter.
- Keep it neutral and inclusive: Avoid brand-bashing or polarizing phrasing.
